My Saturday’s post.
Let’s be honest about what the situation really looks like. An engineer lives for his high-tech challenges and could, in principle, be placed almost anywhere without it affecting his life situation in any major way. I have personal experience from the start of my career at a programming company where the average workweek was 70 hours, and the only time the office was completely empty was during Sunday dinner. Otherwise, it was staffed around the clock. In that kind of environment, there is neither much room for nor much need for social activities.
The significant other half of the relationship often finds this situation deeply unsatisfying, even when she still has access to her social network. I know this firsthand too, because my wife called and shouted at my boss when I had to work too much during the first week after we returned from our honeymoon.
Now imagine how she feels when she has had to give up her entire social network because of the move, and is then left alone while her husband works long hours to keep the schedule on track and avoid delaying the launch.
